A new science-fiction anthology, FINAL ORBIT, is now available to watch online, bringing together four stories about humanity pushed to the furthest limits of space, survival and what it means to remain human.
Featuring Hestia, The Last Garden, Sky Fighter and Outpost, the anthology moves from a doomed mission to Mars and the dying remains of Earth to an interstellar war and humanity’s search for intelligent life.
Across four very different futures, the characters of Final Orbit face one shared reality: home may no longer be waiting for them.
HESTIA
After her spacecraft is irreparably damaged during a mission to Mars, an astronaut is forced to confront the reality that she will never make it home.
With only moments remaining, she makes one final call to her daughter to say goodbye.
A deeply personal story set against the vast isolation of space, Hestia explores the human cost behind our desire to venture beyond Earth.
THE LAST GARDEN
In 2048, devastating solar activity has scorched the Earth's surface and destroyed much of the technology civilisation once depended upon.
Humanity's remaining survivors have been forced underground into ageing nuclear bunkers, where biophysicist Dr. James Alston and his companion Aeryn struggle to keep a failing hydroponic farm — and themselves — alive.
As their resources disappear, Alston faces an impossible question: is completing the mission worth the loneliness and sacrifice that survival may demand?
SKY FIGHTER
In the 26th century, humanity is locked in a devastating space war against an apparently unstoppable alien enemy.
Pilot John awakens aboard a two-person fighter-bomber with no memory of how he got there. His co-pilot, Mo, tells him that aliens hacked his cybernetic systems and that she tried to save him.
But the evidence aboard the ship suggests something very different.
With his memories unreliable and an enemy capable of infiltrating the human mind, John must decide whether the person beside him is his only ally — or the greatest threat aboard the ship.
OUTPOST
At a remote station in deep space, Citizen Gordon, the last member of a special class of intergalactic diplomats, believes he may finally be on the verge of discovering intelligent life.
But his greatest revelation may be much closer to home.
Gordon confesses his feelings for his android companion, A.R.I.A., only to discover that although she loves him in return, she still sees herself as property of the space agency that created her.
When the mysterious entity Gordon has named “the Beyond” suddenly attacks their outpost, he is forced to defend not only humanity, but the very thing that makes humanity worth saving: love.
FOUR WORLDS. ONE UNCERTAIN FUTURE.
Final Orbit brings together four ambitious independent science-fiction stories examining what remains when humanity is stripped of everything familiar.
A dying astronaut reaches across space for one final connection. The survivors of a ruined Earth struggle to preserve its last signs of life. A soldier questions whether he can trust his own memories. And at the edge of the known universe, a man discovers that love may exist where humanity least expected to find it.
From alien warfare and artificial intelligence to ecological collapse, deep-space exploration and survival, each story looks toward the future while asking fundamentally human questions about trust, sacrifice, connection and hope.
When home is gone, what do we hold onto?
FINAL ORBIT is now released online.
